The narrative of W/M concludes in antithesis of the social idiom of the male viewer and female subject. In an anonymous city, adjoining flats with solitary inhabitants set up the stage for a tense, wordless and voyeuristic relationship. Rendering the coordinates of location, occupation and identity as unnecessary, the film explores the primal impulse of curiosity, desire and companionship between the youthful characters. Although the wall between the two flats obstructs dialogue, it is ironically porous in permitting sound and vision through it, sensorially connecting man and woman in intimate ways. The use of a pre modern optical device and mutual knowledge of being the seer and the seen turn the game unexpectedly at the end of this film.
