The Common Core Learning Standards are one of the biggest changes in public education in a long time. These national education standards have been adopted by nearly every state in the country, including New York. A key feature of the Common Core is the shift in the type and complexity of reading students will be asked to do as they get older; they also stress not only math skills, but also conceptual understanding of how to get the answer. In this segment Questar III Deputy Superintendent Gladys Cruz discusses what these standards mean for public education and how parents can help their children.
