"Why do we become suicide bombers? Because we have no hope. We have no future", says Ibrahim a 70-year old Palestinian farmer. Why? Because in 1996 he had much of his land expropriated for a Jewish building project in Jerusalem.
The fight for land is at the heart of the crisis in the Middle East. Phil Rees' film looks at two houses, caught in the struggle between Palestinians and Israelis for the control of land.
As well as Ibrahim's house, the film follows the story of Duli, a devout Jew who settled his family in a Palestinian area in the heart of Jerusalem. 'The Battle for Jerusalem', made in 1997, shows the grim reality of a conflict which one Israeli human rights' worker describes as a 'time-bomb' waiting to explode.
The Daily Telegraph (21.6.99) described it as 'a disturbing film, which brings the subject to life through individual cases and leaves no doubt of what an explosively dangerous situation is emerging'.
