This September, CreativeMornings/Ottawa was extremely excited to be hosting a talk in support of the upcoming Nuit Blanche 2012, featuring the esteemed Ryan Stec of ArtEngine. A veteran of Nuit Blanche Toronto in 2009, he will speak talk about how he turned the CN tower into a one night only light and music exhibit for the whole city to see.
Nuit Blanche, a one-night art extravaganza is letting lose for the first time in Ottawa on September 22nd. In this inaugural year Nuit Blanche Ottawa, is working to the theme “La Vie est Belle/Life is Beautiful” ( nuitblancheottawa.ca/?page_id=2540) . The event will span two city neighbourhoods with a vast number of projects in both Hintonburg and the Byward Zones ( nuitblancheottawa.ca/?post_type=ha_exhibit&tag=byward-zone&orderby=title&order=asc ) . Art will be taking place on the streets, walls, windows and within the courtyards - transforming ordinary routes and creating an extraordinary and memorable experience.
For this CreativeMornings event we were pleased to welcome Nuit Blanche to Ottawa and are happy to have, Dr. Megan Smith, curator of the event, amongst our audience.
Ryan Stec is a media artist working in documentary, experimental and live forms. His projects have been presented in art galleries, cinematheques, public parks, underground clubs and major music festivals across Canada and internationally in Brazil, Finland, U.K. and the United States. Highlights from his projects include a commission by the New Forms Festival (Vancouver), in collaboration with the NFB, to remix work from Norman McLaren; a commission from SAW Video and Library and Archives Canada to engage with historical media works in the public domain; a two year stint as the resident VJ for the Ottawa's (now Toronto's) Jokers of the Scene, and the incredible experience of being the first artist to access the CN Tower LED lighting system for a 2009 Nuit Blanche project.
