The Apartment is a short documentary that was made as a senior thesis project.
It was tough to come up with a topic knowing that it would have to be completed solo and with all original materials and/or permission to use copyrighted materials. Since it was going to be such a personal process, I ultimately decided to work on a personal subject.
Inspired by Alan Berliner's film, Nobody's Business, I decided to take what was most important and accessible to me - my apartment and my family - and turn it into a sort of family archival history piece. Personal to me, I hope that the documentary also projects themes of nostalgia, immigration and 'the American dream,' as well as personal reflection and an acknowledgement of what is important to you in your life.
