Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies and processes seek to place an interactive computer model at the center of both design and construction. The computer model is imagined as a central information hub facilitating project coordination and collaboration across different trades.
This research prototype enables a team of BIM coordinators to collect and visualize thousands of concurrent design and construction coordination issues during the execution of a real project. By making visible the complexity of BIM coordination in large projects, the prototype aims at charting the organizational complexity of the technologically intensive contemporary practice of architecture. I developed the collection module software as a coordination tool in Gehry Technologies, and the visualization module as an interpretive tool as part of my doctoral research at MIT.
