Go Fund Me Campaign:
The Public Art Project Team
The Public Art Program sets out to develop partnerships between local organizations, schools and artists with a focus on
creating community based projects that integrate art and social service topics. The
primary objectives of this Art Education Program are to develop students’ art, design and media skills while encouraging
their active participation in their communities. Additionally, the program’s essential focus for these community based projects are Nigerian history + culture, human rights, cross class collaboration and care for community.
An initiative of The UR4Africa Project, The Public Art Program will be piloted this September at Home Science Secondary School and Miron Community Junior School in Alagbado, Lagos State, Nigeria. This program is designed to develop and encourage the creative skills of young Nigerians, with a strong emphasis on community engagement, artistic expression and history. This program includes
an art residency for local Nigerian artists who will participate in critical pedagogy training, curriculum design and art exchanges with visiting American artists and educators.
This six-week residency with JS1, JS2, and JS3 students will be offered 3 times annually.
After learning various art and design techniques as well as the process
of collecting and organizing information, students will create a final product. Once this product is created it will be produced in mass so that students, as a group, can participate in distributing it throughout their schools and varying communities.
