The goal of this project is to create an application for either the iphone or the ipad that will bring an audience nearer to the history of Davos. Davos is celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Thomas Mann. An author that wrote the acclaimed book “Der Zauberberg”.
The mountain sanatorium is a immersive interactive story that uses fictional characters to show the user what life was like in Davos during the booming time of Sanatoriums and Tuberculosis.
By detailing fictional characters immersed in real events and portrayed with real media (mostly from the public library in Davos) we hope to teach the reader a great deal about Davos's history with ought them realizing. Too busy immersed in a good short story.
The story circles around three characters, each with his own storyline. Giving the reader the possibility to jump to another storyline and discover another aspect to the tale. The characters, Geoffrey, Martha and Dr. Turban each have a different role in the Sanatorium life and thus teach the reader something different about the day to day life around the early 1900's in Davos.
The application was made to use on the iPad. Allowing us to fully utilize different mediums, sound, text, video and photos! As well as giving the user a large enough surface to really interact with the media and thus immerse themselves in the world of "The Mountain Sanatorium"
