The video consists of lights upon a highway at night in central Florida filmed from a moving car at 24 frames per second to achieve a cinematic texture. The camera was physically shaken and spun to achieve the sense of motion. The images were manipulated with speed changes, layers of horizontal and vertical flips in symmetrical alignments and contrast effects, beginning with 4 layers of images evolving into six layers of images by the mid-section. These visualizations produce kinetic patterns of color and and a kaleidoscopic effect of dancing light and geometric configurations. The piece portays the flux of the universe through audio-visual art, in this case - lights from a highway at night mixed with contemporary classical music.
The music is "Cycles of Fifths in Lines of Self-Similarity", a musical composition written in 2005 for five guitars and then expanded in 2012 to include a pre-recorded tape part. The piece uses a process of music composition wherein five twelve-tone rows constructed from perfect fifths are extended across five guitar lines for the 6 minute and 30 second duration. Each line utilizes its own individual rhythm, occurring for every pitch in a horizontal manner, thus creating a self-similar piece of music. The tape part consists of percussive guitar sounds that were electronically manipulated and rhythmically organized to create a drum-like and percussive backdrop. The music is available for purchase as mp3 download from Amazon, iTunes, CDBaby, etc.
