This is a clip from one of my older films, Lost Worlds Of The Middle East: Israel, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon. This sequence, in which I visit lebanon just after it's civil war is wrapping up, is still relevant to me today. Many friends of mine think government should be smaller, and everyone should have freedom to police themselves fully. They don't want to pay taxes for anything.
Well, here is a country which at the time I visited, had no taxes, no infrastructure, almost no government, few services and little benefit for it's people. Take a look and see how that works out for people.
I am re-realeasing this film for public display because I think the issues are still relevant today, and in some ways have become magnified in American politics.
