Seattle poet Christine Deavel discusses her new collection of poetry,"Woodnote" which was awarded the 2012 Washington State Book Award for Poetry. Deavel's poetry evokes the Midwestern landscape of her childhood and serves as a haunting meditation on loss and endurance. Deavel owns one of only two all poetry bookstores in the U.S., called Open Books, located in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood.
In this piece Deavel discusses finding her voice by going back to her Midwestern roots and inhabiting the diaries of her ancestors.
