This is my first project for my sound and editing course. The project was split between two parts: sound and image. With sounds I wanted to record moments of "silence". With this in mind I kayaked out in the middle of a pond at four in the morning on a cold fall day. While there isn't a true moment of silence, I still wanted to record that journey in seeking it. I then took the sounds and mashed them between that of a film projector and sounds of main street to demonstrate the difference between rhythms of world around me. The sounds and the project as a whole are meant to reflect/bring up feelings of memory and internal escapes.
With image I was a bit worried that I would lose the affect that the sounds had by distracting the viewer with images. With this in mind I went a record long takes from the shore. This was to bring a feeling of a memory, a bit like when you see a place a hear the sounds of a distant memory. I didn't want to show people, man made structures, or even a kayak for this. The images are there to bring up a memory. The viewer can close their eyes and still have the images with them. The editing was different than I usually do in that the edits rarely match with the edits in sound. This was on purpose in addressing the feeling of the project. I had a few moments towards the end where there are no images. I wanted to give the audience a chance to listen if they had not while also keeping in mind that not every memory is complete. There are missing parts. Like every moment of internal escape though it does end which is why the ending is loud and sudden with little to no fore warning.
