It’s 1972 and the music variety show Pop a Top is the hottest thing on Spanish TV. This week our hosts Manuel Voltage and Maya Hennerkes welcome very special guest stars Los Granadians. The Granadians’ performance on Pop A Top is said to be one of their best shows ever. Sadly, the complete show no longer exists. Of the original 60 min program, only 3 segments remain. Fortunately for us, the surviving videos have been lovingly restored to their 1972 brilliance. "La Fiebre" quickly became a huge hit for our boys - requested at every show. Singer Pedro Poyatos once told Rolling Stone that he has played this song so many times he can do the guitar line with his toes.
The Granadians herald from Granada, Spain, via outer space, and you’ve never heard anything quite like their rocking island beats. They give reggae a wild new twist! In fact, the British music press has christened their sound 'crunchy, jerky, esoteric!'
Los Granadians have a new album out on Liquidator. If you doubt how special these boys are you have only to pick this one up. Your ears may just hop off your head to dance with joy!
