a song i wrote for Rowland S Howard the night he died.
I knew Rowland.
He was a great person and an great inspiration and influence to many around the world with his individual style of songwriting, singing and playing.
It was Rowland who wrote the hit that launched Nick Cave's career.
He was fifteen and in a band called 'The Young Charlatains' when he penned 'Shivers'
It went to number one on the national charts in Australia in 1979 with 'The Boys Next Door' who became 'The Birthday Party' and then 'The bad Seeds after Rowland left.
Rowland was one of the individuals in this art form that's riddled with mediocrity and conformity and allowed other artists like me to just be who they are. He proved it was a valid vocational option worthy of respect.
Requiscas In Pace Rowland.
your spirit lives on.
Oct 23 was his birthday.
