Community Justice Society of Halifax began this important community development project in order to help mobilize and strengthen community. The North End Community Circle (NECC) is a group of people living and working in the North End of Halifax who wish to bring to life their vision of "an inclusive and engaged community that fosters belonging, open dialogue, well being and safety". The individuals and groups represented include individual area residents, schools and the school board, churches, police, municipal volunteer services, immigrant and newcomer settlement services, youth prevention programs, the housing authority, tenants association and recreation centre. The NECC meets monthly to talk about issues that are important for members and strategize about collective action. The vision of the NECC is supported by a desire to have residents take leadership and direct the future of its social action. NECC members have no legal standing with each other as members of an association, but come together in good will and service to the community.
