10-17-12 at 6:40pm Emma stopped breathing. The power had gone out about an hour earlier. Misty was hanging out at Toys R Us with Addison to avoid coming home to a powerless house. Emma was in the kitchen in her exersaucer. As I came back into the kitchen I could hear her starting to choke. It was not the normal gurgle sounds as she was gasping for air. I picked her up and she stopped getting any air. She quickly started to turn blue. I laid her on the counter and put a new trach in as fast as I could expecting this to help and for her to start breathing again. She didn't start breathing and became limp. That was the most horrifying thing ever. Thankfully as I called 911, with my spare hand that wasn't holding her trach in, bright red blood started coming out of Emma's trach and she slowly started to breathe again. As a result Emma spent two nights in Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital. This was part of my shift. So thankful Emma's ok and so horrified that something like this will happen again.
