In Las Vegas last year, TSIA released the book “Consumption Economics: The New Rules of Tech.” At the conference last year, multiple presenters discussed how the business models and service models in the industry were being pressurized for dramatic change. One year later, what have we learned? In his opening keynote, Executive Director Thomas Lah provided an update on industry trends that have unfolded over the past year. These trends have significant implications for every service line within a product company. He outlined how product companies are navigating these trends. There are three probable paths forward for most OEMs—and two of those paths are not very palatable. Never has service strategy and service execution been so critical to the overall success of product companies.
