Efficiency Nova Scotia offers a win/win proposition. It works with businesses and home owners to provide advice and guidance about using energy smarter as well as financial incentives to support the installation and implementation costs of new solutions.

It also faces a challenge in promoting the value and credibility of the organization – which receives funding from the provincial government and through a power bill surcharge – in a market that is increasingly critical of the power generation sector, and may not fully appreciate Efficiency Nova Scotia’s independence from both Nova Scotia Power and the provincial government.

The recent Bright Business Conference, held in Halifax, was an opportunity to provide some clarity about the organization’s role and purpose, help raise awareness about the value of energy efficiency, and increase the uptake of efficiency solutions. It also provided a forum to celebrate the successes of individuals and companies across the province who have been early adopters of smarter energy use.

Journeyman Film Company was commissioned to create a series of seven vignettes, showcasing the work of each of the award winners, plus an event opener that featured two further projects supported by Efficiency Nova Scotia. Eight films, all researched, shot, edited and delivered in four weeks! Quite a task, but one that we undertook with our usual enthusiasm…

From Cape Breton lobsters to Musquodoboit dairy cows, from students in Bedford to shoppers in Sydney, we explored many of the different ways that being more energy efficient is making a real impact throughout Nova Scotia.

“I just wanted to thank you all again for turning around fantastic work in such a short timeframe. We had over 400 people attend the conference yesterday and the videos really added a lot to the event. We are extremely happy with the results and all the award winners are impressed how well their stories turned out.”
