about a year and a half ago i was at a going away party for a friend and met a gorgeous couple, kelsey and brennan, who were recently engaged. clearly, i had to take it as a divine encounter and informed them matter-of-factly that i would be shooting their wedding video. they were skeptical.
soon after that i ended up in thailand with kelsey's brother and by the time i got back to the states, i felt like i was family. so when kelsey emailed me a couple weeks later about actually filming their wedding, i was all over it.
to change the subject here a little, i've filmed a handful of weddings, and put these trailers together for the world to see. maybe you've seen one or two of them. oftentimes, the couple will want to do a longer shortfilm of the day that has vows and toasts and all that jazz as well.
the idea is that most people will only want to watch a few minutes, whereas the couple and family will watch the 25-30 minute film over and over again. it's their story.
this was honestly one of those couples who i wish everyone was privy to their full day.
completely filled with grace and beauty, kelsey and brennan radiate young love and what it looks like to have hope and faith that God has great things in store for those who love him.
when kelsey got up to bat with her vows, i literally started tearing up. i quickly and discreetly wiped my eyes and played it off as allergies. (they WERE married outside at the beautiful five rock ranch, during allergy season nonetheless)
and then i started going through the footage. and watched her vows. again. and again i started getting spontaneous allergies, this time in my apartment, out of season. and the next day i watched them again. same deal.
to be real, kelsey and brennan have been surrounded by and brought up in a culture that understands love. they might be young, but their vows promise a bright future despite the fact that their will be valleys and hard times. they demonstrate that this couple knows that true love is not about happiness, but about mutually putting God first, and then the other before yourself. about laying down your own desires and needs and caring for the other. about showing and choosing and truly living love, just because that's how God loves us.
and they get that their relationship isn't for them. it's for God, and for others. they choose to love others better through their relationship. not make their relationship an end in itself.
i truly believe this couple will do amazing things for God's kingdom and in the lives of those around them.
and i only hope they have lots of babies, cause ..... those kids will be hot!
