A Public Artwork Design for the North-South Subway line Amsterdam.
Location: Subway Station Vijzelgracht. The Ramses Shaffy Art Project.

To honour the singer and actor Ramses Shaffy, a public Art commission was set up to design an artwork for Subway-station Vijzelgracht. Marjan Laaper designed a light installation behind the large glass wall above the escalators. After reading the biography of Ramses Shaffy she decided to map all the important people in his live. Each person got his/her own lifeline. The lifelines show the important moments in each individual life.
The lines also resemble subway-lines. They are made from small LED's that can light up each line
separately. When all lines light up at the same time the portrait of Ramses Shaffy becomes visible.
The different lifelines can form several portraits of Ramses Shaffy in different stages in his live.
