Birthing Babies Together is a group of three medical students (Bailey Adams, Danielle Lewis, Katie Dawn Stringer) from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada who have come together to create an educational documentary about woman-centered care.
"I was inspired to create this film after the birth of my son, Ivar Lewis, in December 26, 2008 in Vancouver, BC. I had two beautiful midwives. I also had an obstetrician due to an emergency complication. I felt blessed to have both sides of this very important equation to deliver my baby safely. I have since then become interested in the balance of medically necessary interventions and natural childbirth.
How can we support a mother in the best way possible in this empowering time in her life? I wanted to explore the medicalization of birth and how that has affected women and families. How can we as medical students learn more?"
