Peter's Project is a reflection on camera as mediating the broken pieces of what used to be a happy, “abled” relationship. The couple life of Dirk and Peter is confronting new challenges under the trauma of the aphasia and physical impairment that Peter experienced due to a stroke. Peter's disability becomes the core of a contemplation on broken expectations (about the body, life as a couple, friendship and family, state support). Peter's Project is Dirk's project too, as it helps Dirk redefining himself (“getting out of the shadow”), finding meaning in misfortune and exorcising pain. The empowering capacities of the camera are revealed through its manipulation as a mediator and as a means of coping with hazard, the absurd, the unfamiliar new identity of Peter.
