Langdon uses time (and space) to hold the viewer hostage in this work. You have to engage with “Retinal Burn” for at least 30 seconds to realize its impact. In those 30 seconds, you become more conscious of the image being burned onto your retina. Langdon is also using the “after image burn” to maintain control over how the viewer experiences the work. Langdon is hinting, that in today’s society we are all being controlled, choreographed and manipulated by technology.
