Folks, have you ever wondered why the Song is called "Your Mother's Son-in-Law" and not, as the lyrics would make you believe, "My Mother's Son-in-Law"? Well I guess Alberta Nichols would know, as she wrote the song with her husband Mann Holiner. Alas she died in 1957. By the way, Alberta Nichols has the same birthday as me and Jean-Luc Godard. 'Your Mother's Son in Law" was apparently the first song Billie Holiday recorded, if memory serves in 1933 with the Benny Goodman Orchestra. Here we have a more contemporary interpretation by the Goodnight Circus.
