18:41 min, 2011, sound: composition & instrumentation by Anja Lautermann, field recordings by Rona Rangsch
Sublimation is the direct transition from the solid to the gas state of a material. Ice and water vapour and how they may sound are the elements that characterise Rona Rangsch’s video. She chose the sequences from footage created over the last years during artist residencies abroad and as a reaction to a selection of sounds from an existing sound pool by Anja Lautermann. Lautermann and Rangsch arranged and modified the scenes as to create a dramaturgy from dulcet over threatening and dramatic to indefinite unsettling. The sound track with xylophone, flute and electronics by Anja Lautermann underlines the plot. The audio stream was arranged in close collaboration as well and also incorporates the original sounds of the video footage.
