In this video, it shows me and my family's 2nd fun day at sea aboard the Carnival Elation. We were headed back up north from the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico after visiting Progreso/Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins and Cozumel Island/Passion Island. It was a long trek up north in the Gulf of Mexico...but something came up...
In the first parts of the video, it shows the beautiful sunrise seen while over the Gulf of Mexico, viewed from our stateroom on Riviera Deck, R-39 at the starboard side of the ship. We were cruising up north at max cruising speed. However, this was the day when Hurricane Isaac was pounding home port...in New Orleans, LA! You can hear in the background about the news on Isaac. We were at a safe distance, trailing behind Isaac, about 400 miles from it but the sea was choppy.
Then by late morning, we ate at the Tiffany's Bar & Grill to eat our breakfast/brunch. The sea was choppy, and we also saw an isolated storm/shower to the southeast. Then we heard more announcements about the current situation with our arrival and of Hurricane Isaac. We pretty much relaxed on deck much of the remainder of the morning. The water was very blue! Then another short announcement came on about our possible destinations since the Mississippi River was still closed to ship traffic. It might turn out that we might spend another day at sea...
By afternoon time, I now stayed and chilled for a good amount of time by the port side of the ship, while on the Promenade Deck by the video arcade. Then yet another announcement came on. They were now letting the phone lines on so everyone can contact their loved ones and reschedule flights/rides and whatnot since we were going to stay another day at sea now to wait out the storm.
Then coming late afternoon, we ate some sushi and then after seeing the sunset shortly, we then headed up on the Sun Deck. Those clouds towards the north and northwest/west were actually the first outermost cloud bands of Hurricane Isaac! It was very nice up on Sun Deck, with the clear view of the top decks of the ship. The waxing gibbous moon was also rising over the west. The horizon looks to be going up and down, that's how choppy the seas were. It shows a few photos of us on the Sun Deck just chilling as well. I later went to the front of the ship. It was getting dark at this point. We were still headed northward...Isaac was straight in the direction that we were going! Yikes!
Afterwards, we then ate dinner at the Tiffany's restaurant once again. The ship was really rocky at this point. If you look closely at the people walking, you can slightly see them going with the motion. Even one lady (with her tray of food) bumped another lady gently around the buffet area.
Then by nightfall, we headed back to our stateroom. (The photos shown are actually after a medical emergency. You will hear part of the announcement while we were back in our stateroom. The photo at the end was the emergency medical lift event, viewed while up on the Sun Deck. The helicopter is on the left side of the ship's exhaust.) What a crazy time it is on the Carnival Elation!
