I've only seen one other lightning storm like this before in my little canyon and that was back in 1998 or 1999.

This was a very fast-moving storm and we were on the very southern border of it. Therefore, we did not get the 3 inches of rain or 1 inch diameter hail that many experienced.

I set my camera up looking northeast as the tail end of the storm passed over. Believe it or not, the lightning was more intense 10-20 minutes earlier.

My tripod was at work so I placed the camera on top of our old Weber grill and propped the wide-angle lens up on a plastic egg carton I grabbed out of the recycling bin. There is no audio as I had the phantom power turned off because of a shoot I had a couple of days earlier. The shotgun mic needs phantom power to operate.
