Zion House, a transitional home for female veterans in need of housing and other assistance, is one of a dozen facilities serving the growing female veteran population nationwide. Zion Episcopal Church in Avon, New York, opened the home in 2010 and has since served more than 30 women. Zion House’s director, the Rev. Kelly Ayer, started a homemade, small-batch organic product line, “Boadicea” (Bow-de-ka), to offer the women an opportunity to work in a supportive, rehabilitative environment, and to offset Zion House’s grant- and-donation dependent budget. – Lynette Wilson for Episcopal News Service.
