Dlectricity is a nighttime, outdoor contemporary art festival that invites emerging and established artists, performers, lighting designers and architects to make site-specific installations of light, sound, performance and projection. The Woodward corridor was transformed into an illuminated urban spectacle for thousands of visitors. MOCAD's programming for Dlectricity featured outdoor projections, live entertainment and a cash bar. Dlectricity took place October 5 and 6th in Midtown Detroit.
Works featured at MOCAD during the festival include Mikki Olson's "Let's Dance", a spontaneous, collaborative multimedia dance party, blurring the lines between artist and spectator, art show and party; allowing us to question what is art, and what is our relationship to it.
Also featured is Nicola Kuperus & Adam Lee Miller's "Rise & Fall: Repeat.", a sound and video installation consisting of seemingly disjointed fragments of non-thematic absurdist entertainment, unified through rhythm. The installation consists of multiple original videos seamlessly flanking one another to create one larger piece. Each video contains a short loop of an action with sound which produces a musical element. These musical elements combine to create an original piece of music. The end result is an visually complex/sonically charged, multimedia experience.
