This video-clip shows an extra-ordinary interpretation of the famous song of "The Weather Vane" from the song cylcle “Winter Journey” composed by Franz Schubert. The actor Horst Dittrich sings with gestures this famous song in Austrian Sign Language.
In the „Winter Journey" a traveller remembers the lost of the girl he loved. Due to this love story from the past the traveller must walk all time as in summer as in winter, day and night, because "I arrived a stranger and leave again a stranger". During his journey he remembers the relationship to the beloved girl from the past: the wind, the dancing weather vane, the frozen tears, the snow, the dream of the linden tree, the cold water, the ice, the dream about spring and love, the lonely clouds, the desire for communication, the crow as a strange friend on the journey, the dogs in the village, the cold winter, the cold light, the search for the right direction in the travel, the inn on the graveyard, the snow and the cold sun, the search as the essential aim of life.
The "Winter Journey" of the composer Franz Schubert (1797 -- 1828) and the poet Wilhelm Müller (1794 -- 1827) was sung by lot of different voices (from higher ones to deeper ones). But we missed "one voice": the Sign Language of the Deaf. Now for the first time the "Winter Journey" is presented by a deaf actor in a visual interpretation. The poems of the "Winter Journey" like eye music. The emotion of the poems can be seen in the Sign Language. So the music of Franz Schubert will be combined with the visual music of the deaf. For the musical interpretation an original piano of the Viennese Eduard Seuffert from 1855 is used performed by Gerd Hecher and sung by Rupert Bergmann in a production of ARBOS – Company for Music and Theatre.
