First of a planned series about several aspects of design for mobile devices.
"The advertising column ("Litfaßsäule") revolutionised public announcement in 1855. Now everybody could post messages at a central place.
Some decades later there are still advertising columns in the streets, but are not the target for curious people any more. Instead they carry news and ads on ther mobile phones with them.
But placards on public display are not outdated at all. They carry 2D codes now which allow access to additional offers and information via smartphone.
The small screen on those devices makes it a must to structure large and complex websites so they're easy to navigate. Only then a pedestrian will find fast and comfortably what he's searching for, and becomes a happy customer.
