Michio Ito was the outsider who worked his way in. In 1912, the teenager sailed from Japan to Europe where friendships with London's literary greats influenced his artistic voice and contribution to the growing culture in New York and Los Angeles. At the peak of his career, Ito was arrested by the FBI and deported as an enemy alien.
