This audio portrait paints the story of my grandmother’s first time flying overseas as she travels to Germany to stay with her husband in the 1950s. This piece was inspired by StoryCorps, an organization that collects 2-3 minute stories that give a voice to some of the important yet unnoticed moments in one’s lifetime. My edition of StoryCorps was not to highlight a cliché moment of when my grandparents met or when they got married, but to show the lengths that two young people will go to preserve their love during a time when conditions are not ideal. This piece incorporates small details and personal feelings to tell a story that gives an audience a slight look at they way things were during the Cold War in the late 1950s. The edits that I made in Audacity were minimal, cutting out gaps in the conversation, as well as rearranging certain sound bytes to create a smother story-telling flow.
This audio piece was creates using a Zoom H1 Handy Recorder, recording a phone conversation using an Apple iPhone 4.
