A Journey Through Panama & Colombia: "Tweede Lustrumreis Concorde'98"
Five years after Malaysia, we did our second anniversary trip. This time, we visited Panama & Colombia:
After a short night in Panama City, our local guide "Panama Pete" took us mountain biking in the Gamboa Rainforest. Later that day, the Old Town (another UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Panama City's nightlife awaited us. The next morning, a hung-over bus ride and boat trip took us to an Indian village where we had lunch with the locals. From there, some heavy trekking brought us deeper into the jungle and abseiling from waterfalls was necessary to get out again. A few days at The Playa Blanca Beach Resort were next, it didn't have the white sandy beaches you'd expect at a resort with that name though. We spotted a couple of alligators while kayaking in Lake Gatun and made a trip north to Puerto Lindo, our gateway to the San Blas Islands (Kuna Yala). Paradise. Surprisingly, we all survived the trip to Colombia that came next, two life-threatening days and nights of hardcore sea-sailing on the Caribbean Sea with dodgy boats brought us to Cartagena de Indias. After exploring that city for a couple of days, a one-hour flight brought us back to Panama, where we finally visited the famous canal.
