"Untangle ist eine Loop-basierte Videoarbeit, die sich um meine komplexe Beziehung zu meinen Haaren dreht. Untangle ist eine Reflexion meiner Verinnerlichung gesellschaftlicher Erwartungen und beschäftigt sich mit den Etappen des Verlernens, Auspackens und Entwirrens auf meiner Reise zu einer neuen Selbstidentität. Es geht um einen inneren Prozess, der sich jedes Mal mit neuen Erkenntnissen fortsetzt. Obwohl es bei den Haaren begann, hat mich dieses Projekt dazu gebracht, tiefere Fragen, Gedanken und Ideen rund um meine Sexualität zu erforschen.

Indem ich mich mit der wahren Natur meiner Haare auseinandersetzte, wurden diese zu einer Verlängerung von mir, sozusagen zu einem weiteren Körperglied, und verkörperten in ihrer Ungezähmtheit ungewollt meine Rebellion: sie beanspruchten ihren Raum einfach so, ohne dass ich ihn ihnen von mir aus angeboten hätte. Das Haar fungiert somit als Medium, das die mit dem "Glätten" meiner selbst verbundenen strukturierten Emotionen vermittelt - des "Glättens", das ich anderen erlaubte, mir anzutun und das ich mir selbst angetan habe. Die Arbeit erforscht meine Erwartung, mich anzupassen, meine anschließende Akzeptanz desselben und die Stärke, meine eigene Wahrheit anzunehmen."

"Untangle is a loop based video work centered on the complex relationship I have with my hair. It is a reflection of my internalisation of societal expectations and the journey of unlearning, unpacking, untangling to reach a new place of self identity. An internal process that loops with layered insights each time. Though it started with hair, this project has forced me to explore deeper questions, thoughts and ideas surrounding my sexuality.

In coming to terms with the true nature of my hair, it became an extension of me as integral as a limb and unintentionally personified rebellion in its untamedness, occupying space that was claimed and not given. It is used as a medium to convey the textured emotions attached to 'straightening' myself, that I allowed others to do to me and have done to myself. The work explores the expectation to fit in, the subsequent acceptance and the strength to embrace my truth."
