Wing 72" x 10"
Body 57" x 6"
AUW 9 pounds
Two AXI 2820/12 motors
Two 12 x 6 slow fly props (I didn't have two regular props so I'll try them as I suspect it will enhance the twin sound a little)
Two Jeti 70 amp opto ESCs
I use two or three 3 cell 3200 mha Lipos (I have room for three but only have 5 batteries so I've been doing one flight with three for 8 minutes and another flight with two for 6 minutes leaving a good margin of power left)
I've been working on this one for a long time. It's been so crazy busy at work I had to go long periods with no progress. I was inspired to build this type of plane after seeing Mario's videos with his Twinstar plane.
I'm pleased overall with the performance as the twin props pull that thing into the air faster than you can blink an eye and the weight of the pan and tilt is no problem for this setup. I have two concerns. One is the torque steer to the left is bad on take off and I could fix that by reversing one motor and prop. The other is the flex on the wing is allowing them to bounce around even on this perfectly calm day. I'm not sure I want to build another stiffer wing though I have an idea how to do it so I might try a single but larger motor back in the middle. Not sure.
EDIT: On 7/5/09 I fixed the wing by adding some more carbon fiber to the trailing edge and a partial underside to the wing to make it less flexible and it works. Check out my newest video.
