In an approachable, self-effacing style that captivated his audience, Dan Heyman '05 offered some advice about travel and its power to expand one's world view. After studying economics and mathematics at Columbia University, Dan moved to Freetown, Sierra Leone to work for MIT's Jameel Poverty Action Lab and Innovations for Poverty Action, sister research organizations. While in West Africa, he set up a partnership to implement a new micro-credit product targeting rural farmers, and evaluating its effectiveness. His experience informs an excellent lesson for the prep class.
