This video demonstrates how after having embedded alluminium foil and LEDs in home made paper, you can then make a capacitive sensor!
We attached the alluminium foil to an Arduino pin and used it to sense the capacitance of the human body. Depending on the resistor you will use, you will be able to sense presence at inches from the sensitive surface. We also mapped the proximity of the hand to an LED light.
You can see how the LED embedded in the paper responds to the presence and touch of a person.
