Sam Wilson acquired hearing loss when he was in the Army. As an armor officer for 10 years, he spent most days riding around in tanks, often exposed to repeated explosions and noise. Once he left the service, he was diagnosed with high frequency hearing loss. Sam’s experience is not unusual. According to the CDC, noise-induced hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears) are the leading medical condition among veterans – outpacing other physical injuries. Since leaving the Army, Sam became a statistician and has built a career in biotech. Today, as a statistician at Frequency Therapeutics, he plays a critical role in Frequency’s hearing loss program – and he hopes to one day give back to his fellow veterans suffering from noise-induced hearing loss.
