This is a rough, two camera (1 man crew!) shoot conducted at the "More and More Happy" music festival held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China, on May 28-29th, 2009.
It was held in the cultural district, at a facility that was once a textile mill but now servers as a concert and arts venue. The Festival ran from 1pm until midnight on both days and featured national acts specializing in folk, rock, ska, hip-hop, funk, punk and metal, including: SUCKER, Joyside, AK*47, NONAME, Black Caesar/Black Head, Echo Rush, and others. There were video screenings, photo exhibitions, and independent vendors rounding out what some could call, “Xi'an-palooza.” A great event in a great city, imo.
The audio here is not so hot. The shoot was captured for posterity. Some of it will be repurposed for future SUCKER videos. There are about two songs from the set which were not included in this compilation because of technical issues.
SUCKER are a Xi'an, Shaanxi, China (PRC) based punk band, formed in 2006. Unlike other Xi'an bands, SUCKER still reside in Xi'an and have not moved to Beijing (China's independent music mecca). SUCKER are Frank: Guitar/Vocals, Zhang Hui: bass/Vocals, Xiao Yue: Lead Guitar/Vocals, and Xian Jun: drums and vocals.
On July 20th, 2009, the band released their first full length, professional CD, "There's a Sucker Born Every Minute." I shot a trio of music videos for them that I will eventually post here. If you can' wait, you can pick up the CD, where you will be able to own all three videos AND contribute to the artists directly. Nobody gets rich playing rock'n'roll in China, so every little bit helps.
SUCKER are good, hard working kids and keep the punk rock torch lit. It was a tremendous pleasure working with them. If you get a chance to see them in China, tell them the Shanzhai Laowai recommended them to you. I want to thank my friend DaMian for his assistance in making my collaboration possible.
