Thanks to the support of our very generous sponsors, the Super Grom Surf Off was a huge success with 32 grommets from far and wide taking advantage of near perfect 2ft waves. The comp provided an opportunity for aspiring junior surfers to compete in a state sanctioned event underpinned by the support of the Wilson Family. World No. 8 Julian Wilson provided a $500 scholarship to the most promising young surfer on the day and sent word from Santa Cruz: "I am really excited about the possibility of these up and coming kids having an opportunity to get some contest experience as they are the future of the sport."
It was also an opportunity for all involved to give something back with the Coolum Boardriders Club presenting a cheque for the National Breast Cancer Foundation to Nola Wilson at the end of the day.
Intererst in the event was not limited to the competitors and their families. The picture perfect Coolum Beach location boasts a skatepark, playground and BBQ facilities near the competition area and attracted a lot of interest from beach goers and the general public.
A massive thankyou to: Penny Skateboards, FCS softboards, Coolum Surf, Widebay Motorcycles, Zee Wetsuits, The Woods Indoor Skatepark, Shotgun Surfboards, Elite Surf Coaching, Performance Physio & Rehab, Coolum Surfing School, Breaka, Creatures, Carve Sunglasses, House of Marley, Oakley and Nike......who made it all possible!
