Sometimes the company is more important than the food. When Simon the Pharisee invited Jesus to dinner, the menu was not of paramount importance. Who was Jesus? Was he a prophet? Simon observed closely as a stranger, a woman of bad reputation came and wept over Jesus’ feet and anointed them with expensive perfume. Now Simon knew who Jesus was not. Or did he? Two people encountered Jesus. One was grateful. One was not. Who are we in this story?
