Mortuus Est Philippus is a work in progress which will be premiered in May 2013 at the completion of Philip Connaughton’s year as Dance Artist in Residence at Axis Ballymun. Using an original score by Irish composer Michael Gallen and Lighting design by Eamon Fox this piece allows us to examine ideas of self-awareness, self-image, vulnerability and love. Connaughton uses the beach as a metaphor, symbolizing the meeting place for two different states. The rational and the irrational. The material and the spiritual. The familiar and the unknown. It’s a journey that takes us from the banal to beautiful and back again.
Floating from one state to the next. Not caring how we arrived where we are. Just floating between dances.
Just dancing and floating as the sun rises and sets.
