A micro love story. This film premiered in the 2 Minute Short Film Competition in the Stuttgarter Filmwinter festival, 2014 and was one of five winning entries featured in the IdeasTap Takeover, a five-day festival that took place at London’s Rich Mix 12-16 February 2014.
'What a lovely way to burn' is a tiny tale about the first ‘spark’ between two lovers. The lighter and candle are cold and static when alone but once they join forces, they create something that is warm, bright and ever-changing. Like love, the flame lights up the darkness, comforts and consumes, provides and devours.
I shot this animation on a day when I was home sick (the same day I also took my first foray into flash fiction: whethervaneglory.com/the-collier-tales/). It spent about half a year sitting around without any audio, and then when I really should have been doing other things I decided to finish it. The soundtrack is taken from a lovely piece I found on Jamendo (jamendo.com/en/), 'Phantasia in A Minor' by Mark van den Borre (markvdb.be). Enjoy!
