Zac Zavos of Conversant Media says the first few years of business were brutally hard. Luckily, online accounting with Xero meant improved collaboration and a clearer view of cashflow.
"They were so difficult," Zac says of the early years. "We were selling advertising, we didn't have much of an audience and we didn't have any sales staff.
"I had absolutely no insight into our business – how we were tracking on a monthly or even quarterly basis. The worst thing was, when I wanted to get that insight, it actually cost me money – which is the thing I was trying to avoid.
"When we switched to Xero we had a low monthly fee – but the benefit was that I could log in at any stage and see how we were tracking. That freed up a lot of cost, thousands of dollars, and gave me all this insight into our business.
"We're in such a great position using Xero as an accounting system. We're a small and growing business with this amazing set of products that are all up in the cloud – and it really helps out business grow," Zac says.
