We wanted to make a platform that was small, low cost, and extensible for some of our future projects at the Los Angeles Robotics club meetup.com/LARoboticsClub/
We came up with this form factor and wanted to see what you guys thought. It's mostly through-hole components and dip socket make it really easy to modify to fit your needs. It will come in really handy when we incorporate it into our telemetry robotics projects in the near future (stay tuned!)
Plus, it's very low cost, at around $5. You can program the chip with the open source IDE from Arduino® and the board uses the standard Atmega328 with the boot loader pre-loaded on the chip.
We are currently hosting a Kickstarter to see if people outside of the LA Robotics club are interested in buying these units once we make our first production run. The video was shot in my friend's living room right after the most awesome thanksgiving ever.
