"Americana" can be defined as "things associated with the culture of the United States," but for eighty years "Americana" was also a place. From 1922 to 2002, Americana/LeSourdsville Lake Amusement Park operated in the city of Middletown, Ohio. In 2007, photographer Ronny Salerno was permitted onto the property to document the decay of a park that once symbolized a now fading era in American entertainment. As the park fades away, so does a bygone era. Just as our culture shifted from small, local amusement parks with classic midways and cotton candy to corporate backed theme parks with record breaking rides, so did this once classic amusement park. "Americana" represents not just the end of a physical place, but an end to a chapter in the nation's history.
