"Where's the Money? Understanding & communicating about K-12 education funding in Washington State"
Following-up on last year's tremendously successful education consensus meeting, we will tackle the ever confusing issue of how our schools are funded. This topic is of particular importance following the Washington State Supreme Court ruling in January that the State is not meeting its constitutional duty to amply fund K-12 education for all students.
We will discuss the implications of that ruling, the mix of local, state, and federal funding sources, and how we can impact that funding. We will develop strategies with attendees regarding how to accurately communicate this complex topic with others.
Greg Alarid, Unified Service Representative, Washington Education Association (WEA), Fourth Corner
Michael Jay, League Member, will present a Powerpoint Presentation provided by Dan Newell, Asst. Superintendent, Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI)
