The contribution that the burning of fossil fuels makes to global warming is well documented, but less is known about the contribution made by forest fires to that same problem. Which is why a the United Nations is looking into precisely this issue. It’s estimated that forest fires contribute 4000 billion tonnes of carbon emissions annually around the world, largely as a result of manmade fires. And that figure is growing. The new research addresses whether it is possible and feasible to significantly reduce these carbon emissions?
