George George Memorial Park is a 30-acre community park located in Clinton Township, Michigan. The park, which was previously part of Moravian Golf Course, was donated to the City of Clinton Township by Jim George in honor of his late father, George George, in 2008.
Although the park’s existing architecture was traditional, we integrated specific elements and materials in the focal point’s design in order to create an oasis with a more contemporary feel.
We selected rough black granite pavers for the expansive pathway. This textured directional path leads visitors to a serene seating area that highlights the use of exposed aggregate and geometric saw cut lines. The seating area overlooks a striking water feature that boasts a salt-and-pepper limestone infinity-edge fountain. The limestone’s vertical grooves complement the water’s natural course as it cascades in to the lower basin. The impressive scale of the natural boulders, which we placed within the water feature to serve as a transition to the plaza and garden areas, accentuates the raw, organic materials of the space.
